Astros Finalize Their Opening Day Roster, Listen on SportsTalk790

The Astros finalized their roster this morning by officially selecting RHP Tayler Scott (#50) to the Major League roster. To make room for Scott on the 40-man roster, the Astros placed RHP Lance McCullers Jr. (right elbow surgery) on the 60-day IL.

The club also placed RHP Shawn Dubin (right forearm strain), RHP Luis Garcia (right elbow surgery), RHP Penn Murfee (right elbow surgery), RHP Oliver Ortega (right elbow surgery), LHP Bennett Sousa (left shoulder inflammation), RHP José Urquidy (right forearm strain), RHP Justin Verlander (right shoulder inflammation), and on the 15-day IL.

The Houston Astros will open their 2024 season today in an Opening Day afternoon tilt against the Yankees in Houston...it’s a fitting matchup of two of the top teams in the American League, which have formed a strong rivalry over the last eight seasons...in that span, these clubs have matched up in the postseason on four occasions, with the Astros eliminating the Yankees in all four of those years (2015, 2017, 2019, 2022).
