Astros place Kyle Tucker on 10-day injured list, call up Joey Loperfido

The Houston Astros placed right fielder Kyle Tucker on the 10-day injured list with a right shin contusion and called up Joey Loperfido to take his place.

Tucker, who is third in MLB home runs with 19, fouled a ball off his shin last Tuesday against the St. Louis Cardinals at Minute Maid Park. He was on crutches in the following days and manager Joe Espada said he was still sore.

Tucker's spot on the injured list is retroactive to June 4, when the injury happened.

Meanwhile, Tucker's .979 OPS ranks fourth in baseball, as does his 177 wRC+ , an advanced statistic that measures run creation. He is also tied for the fifth-highest fWAR in baseball.

The rookie Loperfido has played in 14 games for the Astros this season, twice in right field in place of Tucker. In just 39 at-bats, Loperfido is slashing .333/.381/.436 for an .817 OPS.
