The Astros hit the ball well Sunday, but their defense was suspect and late-inning relievers did not get the job done to sweep the Los Angeles Angels on Sunday.

Despite a three-run lead for Houston in the sixth inning, the Astros unraveled at the end and lost 9-7 on a walk-off two-run homer in the ninth by Angels catcher Logan O'Hoppe.

The Astros recorded 14 hits in the game, including at least one from every starter in the lineup except slugger Yordan Alvarez, who still walked twice and homered with three hits the day before in a win.

Jose Altuve had the big game at the plate for Houston on Sunday. He went 4-for-5, including his 10th home run of the season in the sixth inning to put the Astros up 7-4.

The Angels had already cut the lead to two runs by the time Zach Neto doubled off Ryan Pressly to score O'Hoppe and chip further into the Astros' lead. Neto later tied the game when Michael Stefanic grounded out to second base.

In the ninth inning, Josh Hader gave up a line drive single to Kevin Pillar, then a two-run walk-off shot by O'Hoppe for the Angels to avoid the sweep.

With the loss, Houston (30-36) drops to 6.5 games behind the Seattle Mariners for the AL West lead and 4.5 games out of the final AL Wild Card spot.

Rookie Spencer Arrighetti (3-5, 5.79 ERA) takes the mound for Houston on the road against the San Francisco Giants. Kyle Harrison (4-3, 4.18 ERA) is pitching for San Francisco.
