Richard Linklater's latest offering is based on the real-life tale of an undercover Houston cop posing as a hit man.

The big picture: " Hit Man " showcases Glen Powell as Gary Johnson, a former Houston police officer who in the 1980s and 1990s thwarted murder-for-hire plots like it was his job.

Yes, but: While the story is based on an article about a real-life Bayou City cop (specifically, this Texas Monthly article about that cop ), it's set around a New Orleans professor.

💭 Texas Bureau Chief Bob Gee's thought bubble: "Hit Man" isn't as quirky as "Bernie," Linklater's 2011 East Texas true-crime comedy also based on a Skip Hollandsworth Texas Monthly story, but it's still enjoyable.

Meanwhile, " Perfect Match " Season 2 on Netflix starts with two Houston stars in the original cast.

State of the show: The show, which combines finding love with daily challenges featuring Netflix universe stars, is back with Houstonians Izzy Zapata ( from Houston's "Love Is Blind" season ) and Tolú Ekundare ("The Trust: A Game of Greed") — both of whom were main characters who brought a lot of buzz to their respective shows.

The intrigue: Small spoiler, but these H-Town folks gravitate toward each other in the first episode and pair up for the first night.

    • "Izzy's, like, he's a whole vibe too … Just the way he's speaking and everything he's saying, it's giving grown man. It's giving 'I'm ready for something serious,'" Ekundare tells the cameras in episode one.

Plus: Houstonian Jake Cunningham ("The Ultimatum") is later invited to the villa to compete and couple up.

What we're watching: Will there be a Bayou City perfect match?

How to watch: The first six episodes are now on Netflix.

    • The second batch of episodes will drop Friday, with the finale streaming June 21.
