The Astros have released first baseman José Abreu from the Major League roster, general manager Dana Brown announced Friday.

The Astros will announce a corresponding move later in the day.

Abreu, who hit .124 in 35 games (31 starts) this season with two home runs and seven RBI, joined the Astros after signing a three-year deal as a free agent on Nov. 28, 2022.

The Astros still owe more than $30 million to Abreu after signing him to a three-year, $58.5 million.
