A five-year-old boy in Texas was tragically killed when a boat carrying eight people capsized in a lake during a thunderstorm.

The Lone Star State's authorities reported that a vessel with eight passengers capsized on Lake Texoma on Wednesday evening due to a severe storm that swept through the region.

The recreational fishing boat met its fate near Juniper Point, and despite all individuals wearing life jackets, a 5-year-old boy tragically lost his life after becoming entangled in ropes beneath the overturned boat, according to Texas Game Wardens, reports KWTX .

A heart-wrenching GoFundMe page was set up by a relative to help cover funeral costs.

An aunt shared: "Last night, my nephew Jasper tragically lost his life in a boating accident on Lake Texoma. The devastation my little sister is experiencing is beyond words. We are seeking help to cover the funeral expenses and support my sister during this incredibly difficult time."

Elsewhere in Texas, the state is still reeling from the tragic death of 12-year-old Jocelyn Nungaray , whose body was found in a Houston creek earlier this month by a passing bystander.

The last week or so has been eventful: police were able to find and arrest two suspects accused of luring the young girl to a bridge and strangling her. The two men are both facing charges of capital murder and are each being held on hefty $10 million bonds this week, according to court documents.

Jocelyn's family held a memorial service for her Thursday, describing her as a good-hearted pre-teen who shared a strong bond with her mother. Mayor John Whitmore demanded justice, citing that children should not be snatched off the city streets.

The case also fanned claims that millions of undocumented migrants were entering the country illegally and committing a myriad of crimes. The two suspects, according to the US Department of Immigration and Customs Enforcement, entered the US illegally after initially being detained by Border Patrol agents.

The 12-year-old, born December 27, 2011, was a "loyal, compassionate and caring friend" who was always willing to support the people around her, according to her obituary. Her big heart and "zest for life" was two of her most notable personality traits, according to the family.

It was later alleged that two men, identified as Johan Jose Martinez-Rangel, 22 , and Franklin Jose Pena Ramos, 26, bound, stripped, sexually assaulted and ultimately murdered the young girl before dumping her body. The two men from Venezuela made their first court appearances this week, respectively.
