Alex Bregman committed a costly error and Ronel Blanco gave up three home runs to squander an early Astros lead Friday against the New York Mets.

The Astros dropped the series-opener 7-2 at Citi Field, despite outhitting the Mets and leading 2-1 after three innings. Tyrone Taylor tied the game for the Mets with a solo home run off Blanco in the fourth inning.

Pete Alonso gave New York the lead with a 419 solo shot to center field in the sixth inning. Then Bregman muffed a potential inning-ending grounder by Mark Vientos, which later allowed Jeff McNeil's three-run shot to put the Mets up 6-2. An RBI double by Francisco Lindor in the eighth inning put the finishing touches on the Mets win.

The Astros (40-41) and Mets (40-39) resume play Saturday at 3:10 CT. Framber Valdez (6-5, 3.68 ERA) is starting for Houston, with Tylor Megill (2-4, 4.81 ERA) on the mound for New York.
