    Over 2 million without power in Texas as Beryl moves inland. Here’s the latest:

    NEW ORLEANS ( WGNO ) — Hurricane Berly is now downgraded to a tropical storm lashing southeast Texas after making landfall near Matagorda, Texas as an 80mph hurricane around 4am Monday.

    This storm intensified right up until landfall, which brought widespread 60-80+mph winds across the Houston Metro Area.

    Intensifying hurricanes at landfall helps transcend wind impacts much further inland.

    Freeport, TX: 97 mph

    Pointe West Galveston, TX: 92 mph

    San Bernard NWR, TX: 91 mph

    Matagorda Bay, TX: 89 mph

    Hobby Airport: 84 mph

    As Beryl lifts northward, quite a sizeable tornado risk across the ArkLaTex into tonight. Tornado Watch issued until 10PM, additional watches possible further north tonight.

    The Storm Prediction Center has placed an Enhanced(Level 3 out of 5) for severe storms w/ several tornadoes possible.

    Locally, another heat advisory has been issued until 7PM today with feel-like temperatures 102-108. A few late afternoon downpours possible. Higher rain chances arrive late tonight-Tuesday as outer rain bands from Beryl move eastward.
