At least two are dead , including a grandmother and father, after severe weather caused trees to fall on their homes, resulting in tragedy, the authorities revealed on Monday as Hurricane Beryl ravages southeastern Texas, bringing tornado warnings and watches with it.

The first incident occurred somewhere in Harris County, which encompasses Houston. A man had reportedly been sheltering in place in his home with his family when severe weather resulted in an oak tree falling on the home, slicing through the rafters.

Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez took to X to share the news, writing, "@HCSOTexas units responded to the 20900 blk of Heather Grove Ct (Kings River Village - Humble). A tree fell on a house and a man was trapped under debris. Preliminary info indicates one person has been confirmed deceased. Fire department is on-scene."

The second post reads, "The man (53) was reportedly sitting in house with family, riding out the storm. An oak tree fell on roof and hit rafters, structure fell on the male. Wife and children unharmed."

Heath Grove Court, located in the Kings River neighborhood of the city, is located in the far northeastern reaches of the major city, just along Lake Houston. The second incident occurred in the northwestern portion of the city, KPRC 2 reported , where a 74-year-old grandmother was similarly crushed after a tree fell on her house.

The local news outlet reported that constable deputies from Harris County Precinct 4 answered a call detailing the incident, which occurred in the 17400 block of Rustic Canyon Trail. When the deputies arrived, the woman was already dead, it was reported.

The authorities are investigating both incidents, and in the case of the woman, residents are reportedly being asked to steer clear of the area. Sometime after the death of the grandmother, two men became trapped inside their home in the southeast of the city after yet another tree collapse. Both were reportedly dug out and taken to the hospital.

One of the men had still been in bed when the tree collapsed, KPRC 2 reported . Neighbors were the ones to call the authorities, and all parties were rescued. That incident occurred just before 9:15 a.m. in the 2100 block of Des Jardines Street, according to the Houston Fire Department.

The outlet reported that both men were slated to be alright. But much of southeast Texas is now buckling down for more severe weather as Hurricane Beryl continues to sweep through the region, wreaking havoc as the now-tropical storm brings heavy rains, damaging winds and even tornado watches to the region.

According to the National Weather Service, tornado watches are in effect in nearly 30 Texas counties until 10 p.m. CDT on Monday, including around Houston. Parts of Louisiana and Arkansas were also under watches, and several parts of the former were also under warnings .
