HOUSTON ( KIAH ) – Millions remain without power in Houston after Hurricane Beryl, and to track power outages, Houstonians are turning to the Whataburger app . Why? Because it’s almost as accurate as CenterPoint’s outage map tracker – which is currently unavailable to view.

An X user @BBQBryan posted the discovery: using Whataburger app as an alternative to view the stores open and working in the area. If the app shows a store up and running, it could mean the area has power restored. If a store shows up as closed, then the power is probably out at that location.

After the initial post, Whataburger replied to the creator, praising him for using the app in such a creative way.
