Motorists were left both shocked and amused after spotting the familiar figure of the Loch Ness Monster lounging at the side of a US motorway.

The mythical creature, known as Nessie and believed to reside in the loch near Inverness , was sighted an astonishing 4,600 miles away on a Texas Highway.

This peculiar incident occurred in the aftermath of Hurricane Beryl, a Category 5 Atlantic hurricane. Such severe weather conditions often result in a variety of unusual items ending up on the roads.

However, seeing Scotland's beloved monster is definitely a first. Over time, hurricanes have been known to transport zoo animals, reptiles, cars, trees, and even boats miles from their original locations.

But it's certainly the first instance of a storm catapulting Nessie herself more than 4,000 miles from her alleged home in the murky depths of Scotland .

A photo shows the creature reclining in the first lane of Interstate 45 at Crosstimbers Street, causing drivers to do double-takes and perhaps even chuckle at the sight.

"Pretty sure that the Loch Ness Monster was just spotted in the number one lane of traffic on I45 SB at Cross timbers," Houston Police Officers Union wrote on Facebook . "Makes sense."

The post has so far garnered over 4,600 likes, as well as 130 comments from perplexed users. In the picture, cars can be seen driving past and billboards appear to have been knocked over in the background.

But Nessie is the one who steals the show. One woman quipped: "That's the Hot Mess Monster !" Tommy chimed in: "I caught a glimpse and I was like what the hell is this?"

Larry also piped up: "Best photo evidence I've ever seen." Mactavish cracked: "I'm sure she is just out trying to have a relaxing day and here the paparazzi go ruining it."

Jennifer penned: "I think that's Nessie's baby." Amy added: "Ahh it's a baby monster," while Hilary remarked: " Hurricanes blow some weird things in."

The beastie turned up on Monday, July 8. Turns out, though, the supposed " monster " was merely a chair that was blown onto the roads.
