One underlying impact from Hurricane Beryl and natural disasters are the ones people can’t always see. Natural disasters leave victims of domestic abuse even more vulnerable because they’re stuck at home with their abusers with very few places to escape.

Natural disasters tend to increase domestic violence risks in Texas. According to the Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network , 55 percent of sexual assaults occur at or near the victim’s home.

If you or someone you know needs help, Houston Landing compiled a list of domestic violence resources around the region. If you’re in immediate danger, always call 911.
