The Houston Texans officially started training camp with their first practice on July 18, but not without the local victims of Hurricane Beryl on their mind.

The Houston area was hit hard and per The Houston Chronicle , 18 people have died in Southeast Texas "from causes ranging from heat-related illness to drowning and injuries sustained during storm cleanup". Houston Mayor John Whitmire told reporters he expects the death toll to climb in the coming days. The Chronicle also reports more than 40,000 CenterPoint customers, a energy company, are without power in what is obviously one of the hottest months of the year.

On Thursday, star quarterback C.J. Stroud took it upon himself to send a message to everyone reeling from the latest hurricane and it was one that is not only useful and important to those affected, but it just goes to show how much of a leader and good person Stroud is.

"I wanted to say, [I'm] praying for everybody [affected by] the hurricane," Stroud told reporters . "Help is on the way. My foundation and I are trying to help, right now, as i'm speaking. So, you know, we're thinking about everybody who was affected [and] we want to help. We're praying for everybody [and we] hope everybody's getting their power back. We're trying to get people in the streets, to get the debris and stuff off of people's houses and gates and fences and stuff.

"So, prayers out and if we can help out in any way, just reach out to my foundation, please. And we'll try. Thank you guys."

Stroud's foundation, The CJ Stroud Foundation , was created "to inspire, uplift, and support communities in their times of need, ensuring they feel valued, appreciated, and cherished. We’re here to make a meaningful difference in the world, fostering a sense of belonging and hope, especially among our youth. The CJ Stroud Foundation is not just a charity; it’s a beacon of love and support, lighting the way for those who may have lost their sense of direction", per the Foundation's website.

It's always an awesome sight to see star players use their platform to help others, especially in times of need such as this. Houston also had J.J. Watt's famous display of charity back in 2017, when he helped raise more than $37 million to help relive those affected by Hurricane Harvey. That money reportedly helped rebuild more than 1,183 homes, 971 childcare centers and afterschool programs, in the area, back then. That, in turn, helped more than 108,000 kids, at the time.

Stroud is doing what needs to be done and the fact he made sure to specifically mention this during his presser is just more proof that the guy is the right person to lead the Texans franchise in the years to come.
