Texans QB C.J. Stroud shares positive impression of new star receiver

Houston Texans quarterback C.J. Stroud seems to enjoy wide receiver Stefon Diggs' company.

"He's somebody who loves the game and doesn't cheat it, and that's why he's been successful, and I think he'll continue that success," Stroud said of Diggs in a Thursday news conference."I'm blessed enough to, hopefully, be a part of that. That's some things that just stuck out to me. Just how personable he is, how relatable he is. He's really friendly and very vocal, so it's really nice to have him around."

If Stroud and Diggs continue to gel, that bodes well for Houston, which acquired the 30-year-old wideout in a trade with the Buffalo Bills in April.

Over the course of four seasons in Buffalo, Diggs and Bills QB Josh Allen formed one of the best passing tandems in the league, combining for six Pro Bowl appearances. But they bickered over the last two campaigns.

Diggs waved his hands at Allen during a sideline spat in a divisional-round loss to the Cincinnati Bengals in Jan. 2023. On his podcast, The Athletic's Tim Graham also passed along that Allen "snapped" at Diggs following a Week 1 loss to the New York Jets last season.

It's fair to assume Diggs needed a change and Houston could be an excellent landing spot. This offseason,  the Texans also traded for former Bengals RB Joe Mixon. These additions make an offense that already features TE Dalton Schultz and WRs Nico Collins and Tank Dell even more difficult to stop.

Stroud referred to Houston's array of offensive weapons as a "five-headed monster." Perhaps they will produce monstrous numbers this upcoming season, helping the Texans compete for their first Super Bowl.
