Could Astros acquire first baseman of future in blockbuster deal soon?

The Houston Astros at one point seemed like they were going to be one of the biggest sellers ahead of the upcoming 2024 Major League Baseball trade deadline.

Houston struggled to kick off the campaign and at one point was toward the bottom of the American League standings. The Astros clearly have turned things around and now are tied for the top spot in the American League West with a 52-47 record.

Changes still could be on the way for the Astros, but Houston can push those tough decisions -- namely the future of star third baseman Alex Bregman -- to the offseason. Instead, the Astros could be looking to go all in and make one more run with their core in place.

If this ends up being the case, first base is an area that needs to be addressed. Houston isn't afraid to make a major splash and was mentioned as a possible landing spot for Toronto Blue Jays superstar Vladimir Guerrero Jr. by The Athletic's Aaron Gleeman and Tim Britton.

"As with (Bo Bichette), Toronto can happily hold on to Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and try again next year," Gleeman and Britton said. "Or the Jays can dive headfirst into a rebuild by landing a haul of prospects for a four-time All-Star who's still only 25. While Guerrero hasn't repeated the 2021 numbers that garnered him an MVP rummer-up, he looked close to that version of himself in May and June. He's a game-changing bat with a chunk of his prime still to go. Potential landing spots: Houston Astros, Minnesota Twins, and Seattle Mariners."

Guerrero may not be a likely trade piece, but he would be a great option for the Astros if the Blue Jays somehow let him go. He's under team control next season and could help the Astros -- especially if Bregman does end up leaving this upcoming offseason.

Houston has a chance to make another deep playoff run this year and adding Guerrero would help with that fact.
