Could Astros Acquire Underrated Infielder In Blockbuster Deadline Deal?

    By Patrick McAvoy,

Once again, the Houston Astros seem like a real threat to a deep playoff run.

Houston was one of the worst teams in the American League to begin the season but has completely turned things around. Now, it would be in the playoffs if the season were to end today.

The Astros still have their core together and have had plenty of playoff success and it wouldn't be shocking to see them pull off another deep run.

One thing that could help the Astros is adding some more pop at first base. The Astros have been linked to a handful of players and were mentioned as a possible landing spot for Arizona Diamondbacks star first baseman Christian Walker by The Athletic's Aaron Gleeman and Tim Britton.

"Few players in the game have been as overlooked in the last few years as Christian Walker, who ranks fourth in WAR at first base dating to 2020," Gleeman and Britton said. "He brings power at the plate and a slick glove at first. He's a guy who can help deepen the middle of most any order from the right side. Like more than half of the National League, the Diamondbacks currently straddle the buy/sell line. Potential landing spots: Houston Astros, Milwaukee Brewers, (and) New York Yankees."

Walker is an underrated star and would be a great fit for the Astros down the stretch. He has shined once again this year and likely will clear 30 home runs and 100 RBIs again but it's unclear if the Diamondbacks actually will trade him.

There is a chance the Diamondbacks sell at the deadline and the next few days will be extremely important.
