A newborn baby boy was found abandoned in a dumpster outside a taco shop in Texas .
ABC13 obtained a distressing video showing the moment emergency services responded to a tragic scene behind an apartment complex on Dashwood Drive in southwest Houston on Sunday. The footage, captured by a bystander, shows paramedics wrapping the infant in a blanket after retrieving him from a rubbish-filled dumpster.
The baby appeared to be newly born, with damp hair, pink, wrinkled skin and his umbilical cord still attached. A passerby heard the baby's cries near the dumpster just before 2pm and promptly called 911 for assistance, according to police reports.
Upon their arrival, emergency services found the baby inside a bag, but fortunately, he was alive and responsive. The manager of the apartment complex informed ABC13 that an employee of a taco truck had given birth inside a nearby food truck and had discarded the baby in the trash before returning to clean the mobile eatery.
The truck had reportedly been parked at the location for approximately three months. Local reporters observed investigators from the Houston Police Department focusing on the truck where the baby was allegedly born on Tuesday afternoon.
Officers were seen taking photographs inside the truck and speaking with several witnesses, including employees and owners. The baby boy was taken to hospital where he was examined and found to be in good health, the police confirmed.
The newborn has been placed in the care of Child Protective Services as police attempt to figure out who abandoned him. In a similar but unrelated incident back in January, another newborn baby was abandoned behind a dumpster in Mississippi.
The baby, which was around two to three weeks old was thankfully found alive and well near Cayce, an unincorporated community in Marshall County, on Mississippi's northern tip. The baby was discovered at a mobile home community on Grove Boulevard at around 7:30 by three men who were throwing away their trash.
After hearing what they thought was a crying baby they went to investigate, and found the newborn in a car seat wrapped in blankets, authorities said. The baby was taken to Le Bonheur Children's Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee, and was reported to be healthy and in a stable condition.
