Houston poet Kevin Prufer's most recent collection reckons with death and how it fells the ordinary and the great alike.

That collection, The Fears, earned the University of North Texas's 2024 Rilke Prize. Prufer is a poetry professor at the University of Houston, where he has taught for 15 years.
