Vice President Harris is in Houston Thursday to pay her respects to the late Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee (D-Texas), who died last month at the age of 74.

Harris, the likely Democratic nominee for president, will deliver the eulogy at Jackson Lee’s memorial service.

The late congresswoman’s family announced her death in a statement on social platform X but did not specify a cause. However, the news came about a month after she revealed she had been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and was undergoing treatment.

The vice president called Jackson Lee a “dear friend” in a statement following the news of her death, remembering her as a “tenacious advocate for justice and a tireless fighter for the people of Houston and the people of America.”

Harris’s remarks are scheduled for 2:20 p.m. EDT.
