Astros Get Critical Injury Updates On 2 Key Players

The Houston Astros are playing better baseball since the All-Star break, but this ball club is beat up. Two key players are currently sidelined in right-hander Luis Garcia and Kyle Tucker. By the sounds of it, neither is returning to the fold anytime soon.

Garcia still hasn't thrown after recovering from Tommy John Surgery due to several setbacks, per Brian McTaggart. As for Tucker, he took some reps in the outfield on Monday but his shin contusion has kept the slugger out for longer than expected.

Tucker suffered the injury in early June, and while he's done a bit of activity on both sides of the ball, it's nothing serious. Astros manager Joe Espada is still unsure if Tucker will even play before the end of August.

The three-time All-Star is hitting .266 this season with 19 home runs and 40 RBI in 60 games played and has been one of Houston's most consistent hitters over the last few years.

Garcia, meanwhile, made just six starts in '23 before going on the shelf with TJ. He owns a career 3.61 ERA. The Astros are 57-54, putting them a game behind the Seattle Mariners for first place in the American League West.
