3-hour police pursuit ends in Deer Park crash, 16-year-old shot by suspect
HOUSTON (KIAH) – A high-speed chase led to an arrest of a man accused of shooting a 16-year-old teenager in the chest in a carjacking on Tuesday night, police said. Deer Park police began the pursuit around 9 p.m. Tuesday at the 8000 block of Spencer Highway, with reports of a man with a gunshot wound. Officers said that a mother and her son were in a business park when a man with a gun approached them. He shot the 16-year-old boy in the chest and took the car, police said.

A civilian employee accused of stealing over $100 million from the U.S. Army will spend time behind bars. Janet Mello was sentenced Tuesday to 15 years in federal prison. Mello, who had been dubbed the "Gucci Goddess" for her thefts, had worked as a civilian financial program manager at Fort Sam Houston. She was accused of stealing roughly $109 million from the Army by claiming that a child health and development group that she operated gave services to military members and their families, which was not the case. Instead, prosecutors say Mello used the money sent to her by the Army to buy over 1,500 pieces of pricey jewelry along with dozens of vehicles and several houses.

HOUSTON, Texas — A woman was arrested after allegedly assaulting a constable deputy during a disturbance on July 20, 2024. Deputies from Constable Mark Herman's Office responded to a disturbance in the 15000 block of Philippine Street.
