What's Going On: Plenty to do in the area

Howard County River Resuce
On July 11, 2024 at around 5:30PM communications received a 911 call about a river rescue with minor details given at the Loup River bridge South of St. Paul. With quick response from Howard County Deputies and officers from the St. Paul Police Department they observed an adult female and minor child holding onto one of the bridge support with the river current trying to take the individuals down river. Law enforcement deputies and officers got to work as they entered the river and grabbed the individuals and were pulled to the sand bank using a ResQdisk that is a rescue device equipped in the St. Paul Police Department patrol vehicles. St. Paul Fire and Rescue we on scene and checked on the individuals involved in the incident.
Howard County honors native son
ST. PAUL — More than 30 years ago, folks in St. Paul decided to pay tribute to one of Howard County’s most famous sons. And Grover Cleveland Alexander Days was born. But just who was Grover Cleveland Alexander and what did he do to get a community celebration named after him? Well, he was an American Major League Baseball player who played from 1911 to 1930 for the Philadelphia Phillies, Chicago Cubs and St. Louis Cardinals. He was elected into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1938, the only player elected that year. He is still considered one of the best pitchers in league history.
Severe Weather & Flooding Possible
Key Message #1: The main change to the forecast is the issuance of a Flood Watch for Greeley, Howard, Nance, Merrick, Hamilton, Polk, and York counties in Nebraska. The watch will be in effect from 7PM Monday evening until 7AM Tuesday morning. Widespread rainfall of one inch will be possible, with localized amounts of two to four inches possible.
