Toy drive to benefit foster kids
Wondering how you can make a difference in the life of an at-risk child? Birthday Blessings is holding their Second Annual July Toy Drive to meet needs and spread cheer in Missouri foster community. Locally, they provide services to about 200 kids in state custody through the 37th Circuit Children’s Division in Howell, Oregon and Shannon Counties.

Man kidnaps, assaults minor
A Mountain View man is in police custody after he was accused of raping a minor in May. Silmer Flores-Galvez, of Mountain View, Missouri, is being held in the Howell County Jail on one charge of felony rape in the second degree and has a surety-only bond of $100,000 with the condition of the defendant to remain in Howell County. The age of Flores-Galvez is listed on the Missouri Courts website as approximately 20 but is also stated as being 17 years old in court documents.
Sheriff substation coming to W.S.
Howell County Sheriff’s Office will soon have a footprint in Willow Springs. An outdoor sign is the only indicator so far of the coming substation, which will be located at 110 Bear Dr., Ste. 2. The sign has been sufficient to pique public interest, however, so Sheriff Brent Campbell took Howell County News on a tour of the as-yet empty interior on June 6.
