LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — Howell police officials have named the victim and clarified the timeline of events in a shooting that happened Friday night in Howell.

A suspect, who is now in custody, shot and killed 46-year-old Sean Thompson of Howell, officials confirmed.

Officers responded just before 5:30 p.m. to a complaint of threats at Metro Studios Ink, on the 100 block of West Grand River Avenue, officials said.

It was further reported that Thompson was on scene and causing a disturbance. “There is a known history of disputes between business staff and Mr. Thompson,” Dunn said.

The suspect fired one shot and killed Thompson, Dunn said. Officers found him dead inside the building when they arrived.

Police arrested the suspect and lodged them at Livingston County Jail. Officials are withholding the suspect’s identity pending their formal arraignment.

“There are several conflicting pieces of information publicized in both media, as well as social media, right now that contain incorrect and speculative details,” said Chief Michael Dunn of the Howell Police Department.

Dunn also emphasized in the news release that “this was an isolated incident that had no connection to the Balloonfest taking place this weekend in the city.”
