McPherson City Commission Approves Revised Job Description for Deputy Fire Chief Position
McPHERSON, Kan. — McPherson City Commissioners have approved a revised job description for the deputy fire chief position. This is part of a restructuring of the Fire Department organizational chart, which for this position involves a minor modification of job duties along with removal of an existing division chief of operations and training position.
Back to School Carnival is Thursday
Geary USD 475 will host its 2024 Back-To-School Carnival on Thursday, Aug. 1 at Junction City High School. Gates open at 6 p.m. The 2024 carnival will include live performances, carnival games, face painting, free prizes, and free food. Please note that Kona Ice and Bella Hana's Ice Cream and Pastry Shoppe will also be stationed outside the event for anyone who wants to purchase a tasty treat before entering the free carnival.
County wants Trooper Gate decision reevaluated
Geary County Commission Chair Trish Giordano would like the decision by the Army to leave the Trooper Gate entrance to Fort Riley closed indefinitely to be looked at again. The entrance to the Gate is undergoing construction but Maj. Gen. Monte Rone has announced plans to leave it closed once that is complete. Traffic is being rerouted through the Grant Ave. entrance to the post.
Two wounded in Derby stabbing
DERBY, Kan. (KWCH) - Two men were seriously injured in a stabbing early Wednesday in Derby. Derby Police Chief Brandon Russell says around 2:20 a.m. police found two men with stab wounds in the 1400 block of North Nelson after a worker at a nearby business called 911. Both men were transported to the hospital with serious injuries.
