Capital City Crushers 10U Finish Second at State Tournament
Capital City Crushers 10U finished as runner-up in the Championship Game on the weekend of July 19-21 at the 2024 SD class A State Tourney. The Capital City Crushers started their tournament with a win on Friday against Yankton Bombers 11-5. Saturday’s games stared much like Friday with wins over Harrisburg Tigers 10-3 followed by another win against Aberdeen Smitty’s 10-6. Those three wins gave Capital City the third seed going into Championship Sunday for bracket play. The first game would have the team facing another Pierre team the six seed Pierre Snappers. The two Pierre teams battled to the end with the Capital City Crushers coming away with the win 4-3. The win would move the team into the semifinals with the second seed, Harrisburg MAG. Another win for the day against MAG by a margin of 5-1 sent Capital City Crushers to the Championship game to face the top seed Brandon Valley Black. Brandon Valley would get the state championship win defeating the Crushers 11-1. Capital City would finish the tournament at 5-1 taking home second place.
Two arrested on suspected drug, firearms crimes after Madison traffic stop
A traffic stop in Madison last week led to a pair of arrests on suspicion of illegal drug activity. Following the stop Friday, Greenwood County deputies say they arrested Wayne Moler and Gabrielle Cheshewalla on suspicion of distributing methamphetamine; possessing fentanyl, marijuana, opioids and psilocybin; and possessing paraphernalia both for use and distribution. In addition, Moler was arrested on suspicion on being a felon possessing of a firearm; possessing a short-barrel shotgun; defacing the serial number of a firearm; violating driving restrictions; and transporting an open container of alcohol.

Toddler rescued Sunday in Moundridge
MOUNDRIDGE, Kan. — According to a social media post from Moundridge police, a 14-month old was rescued Sunday afternoon. Just before 2 p.m., Moundridge police, fire and EMS were called to a report of a juvenile needing assistance. The child was trapped underground inside a PVC pipe. The pipe was about 12 inches in diameter and 10-12 feet deep. The child was apparently uninjured and upright in the bottom of the pipe.
