Governor Kelly Comes to Independence for Labette Health Groundbreaking
State and local dignitaries gather in Independence for a groundbreaking ceremony for the new addition to the Labette Health facility. The ceremony was held on Wednesday, July 31, 2024, to mark the official start of the construction of Phase Two of the Labette Health facility on Peter Pan Road. Governor Laura Kelly was on hand for the ground breaking. Kelly addressed the crowd, noting that Independence and Montgomery County have come a long way since losing Mercy Hospital in 2015.
Construction to begin on Via Christi St. Joseph expansion
A groundbreaking ceremony was held Wednesday to begin work on a major improvement project for Via Christi St. Joseph Medical Center in Wichita. The $22 million capital improvement project will add 21,000 square feet to the hospital’s emergency department, bringing its total size to 36,000 square feet. The project will add 20 beds to the facility’s existing 29 beds and it will add an 11-bed psychiatric observation area that is designed for behavioral health patients. The size of the waiting areas will be increased and there will be upgrades to improve patient comfort.

Pickleball Pros and Amateurs to Play Side by Side in Overland Park
When the pickleball world converges on the Kansas City metro August 6-11, hobbyists will get the opportunity to learn from the pros—and play alongside them. From August 7 to 11, Kansas City Elite Tennis and Wellness facility in Overland Park will host two massive pickleball events on neighboring courts: the amateur United Pickleball Kansas State Championship and the professional PPA Selkirk Kansas City Open. On August 6 and 7, PPA pros will teach amateurs their trade at a two-day camp.
