Viola Ruth Elizabeth (Roy) Ricks will celebrate her 100th birthday on August 2, 2024. She was born on August 2, 1924, to Dona and Nathalie Roy on a farm near Webster, Kansas. Viola was the eldest among her nine siblings, namely , Eugene, Orville, Clifford, Laverne, Donna, Albert, Shirley, Norma, and Stanley. Unfortunately, her sister Shirley passed away at the age of 4.

Pickleball Pros and Amateurs to Play Side by Side in Overland Park
When the pickleball world converges on the Kansas City metro August 6-11, hobbyists will get the opportunity to learn from the pros—and play alongside them. From August 7 to 11, Kansas City Elite Tennis and Wellness facility in Overland Park will host two massive pickleball events on neighboring courts: the amateur United Pickleball Kansas State Championship and the professional PPA Selkirk Kansas City Open. McPHERSON, Kan. (MacBulldogs.com) — The McPherson College Bulldogs women’s bowling squad announced the tournament schedule for their inaugural season Monday (July 29). “I am beyond excited about the first season of Women’s Bowling at McPherson College,” head coach Mitchell Whitehead said. “In just six months we have been blessed to assemble a roster of excellent young women that have chosen to join the Bulldog Family. Our roster is full of women that bring plenty of talent on the lanes, but what excites me the most is the strong character and positive energy they will bring to our campus.”
Defensive lineman Tony Terry departs the program
Tony Terry is no longer a part of the Kansas football program, Lance Leipold confirmed on Monday after KU football's first practice of training camp. He departed the program over the summer and will not return. Terry spent a little over one year in Lawrence following his arrival in the winter of 2023 as a high school early enrollee.
Police: Kan. man dragged woman with vehicle during dispute
SALINE COUNTY —Police are investigating a domestic incident that injured a woman in Salina. Just after 8p.m. Sunday, officers responded to a domestic disturbance call near Ohio and Magnolia Streets, according to Salina Police Captain James Feldman. When officers arrived, they found a 46-year-old woman from Salina in the parking lot of Scooters on Ohio Street.
