The Thengvall family consists of three brothers, Henry, Will, and Nathan, who are just two years apart. As one could imagine, the family was quite competitive throughout the years.

Lawrence school board to consider increasing meal prices, some student fees
The Lawrence school board on Monday will consider approving a 10-cent increase to lunch and breakfast prices in addition to some student fee increases for the 2024-25 year. Currently, lunch rates for elementary, middle and high school students who are not in the free and reduced-price lunch program are $2.90, $3.10 and $3.15, according to the agenda item. If the proposal is approved, those would increase by 10 cents to $3 for elementary, $3.20 for middle and $3.25 for high schools.
Emporia man arrested in Osage County on suspected drug distribution
An Emporia man faces possible drug distribution charges in Osage County after an alleged domestic disturbance in Melvern. Osage County Sheriff Chris Wells says deputies were called to the area of Northwest Maple and Northwest Roberts around 10:45 am Friday. While on scene, they say they found 33-year-old 33-year-old Dustin R Davis in the 200 block of Northwest Main with illegal narcotics in his possession.

On Friday, July 5, Rosedale Barbecue, the very first spot to serve barbecue in Kansas City, celebrated its 90th anniversary. It was founded on July 4, 1934. What started as a hot dog and beer stand - The Bucket Shop - turned toward barbecue after owners caught a whiff of smoke at Fatty Sharp’s Smoking Meats, just down the road.

For 11 years local business owner Danny Giefer gave his knowledge and time to help better the city of Emporia as a member of the Emporia City Commission. Saturday, the City of Emporia extended its praise and love for Giefer and his commitment to Emporia and expressed its deepest sympathies to the Giefer family upon learning his passing earlier in the day. Study finds housing affordability at lowest point in 17 years
WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) - Real estate data company ATTOM recently published a study showing that buying a house is on average, less affordable than at any point since 2007. Dr. Stan Longhofer, director of Wichita State University's Center for Real Estate, said that it's been tough for the housing market to bounce back since the 2008 financial crisis, made all the more difficult by issues surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic.
