Wisconsin Planned Parenthood responds to Iowa abortion ban
MADISON, Wis. -- On Monday, Iowa's Supreme Court ruled to ban abortions in the state after six weeks, making Iowa the 6th state in the Midwest to have an abortion policy stricter than the standard followed under Roe V. Wade.
Klein named 'Iowan of the Day' for 2024 Iowa State Fair
(Treynor) -- A southwest Iowa resident is among those holding the title "Iowan of the Day" at the 2024 Iowa State Fair. John Klein, an active member of the Treynor Optimist Club, was one of 10 nominees to receive recognition for this year's fair and will be recognized on August 12th at noon on the Anne and Bill Riley Stage. Founded in 1997, the Iowan of the Day award allows the Iowa State Fair Blue Ribbon Foundation to recognize the state's outstanding individuals. Members of the Optimist Club nominated Klein. Klein tells KMA News he was surprised and honored to receive the recognition.
EPA ends oversight of clean up related to Iowa plant explosion
The U-S Environmental Protection Agency has ended its oversight of clean-up at the eastern Iowa recycling facility that exploded in late 2022. Asphalt shingles were being recycled at the C6-Zero plant in Marengo. Twenty employees were injured and part of Marengo had to be evacuated when the plant exploded. Six months later, after delays in the timeline for clean-up, state officials asked the federal government to start overseeing the removal of contaminated water and soil from the site.

Motorcyclist Injured In Rock Rapids Crash
Rock Rapids, Iowa – The driver of a motorcycle was injured Friday when his bike struck a car in Rock Rapids. According to Lyon County authorities, a 2014 Ford Focus, driven by 31-year-old Joanna Hash, of Rock Rapids, was eastbound on Highway 9 in eastern Rock Rapids, when her car was struck by a 1999 Yamaha motorcycle being driven by a male juvenile.
Meteorologist Travis Clark-Smith tracks chances for storms on Saturday night
It's a hot one today! Sunny and dry conditions are expected this evening ahead of a cold front that will bring showers and storms into the area tonight. 60 MPH wind gusts and quarter size hail will be the main concerns from any storm that manages to gain severe criteria. A level 1 risk for severe weather is in place for the viewing area except for along and west of I-35 where a level 2 risk is in place. Partly cloudy skies and warm temps with a slight chance for storms on Sunday before cooler, less humid air returns to the region Monday, along with a good chance for showers and storms. High temperatures will plummet to the low to mid 70s through next week. In addition to cooler weather, the door will be open for a few rounds of showers through the week.
