Golden Hawk Football Camp Starts Push Toward Fall Sports
Monday, the Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk football team takes their first step toward the new season hosting their 2024 camp. Prospective players will meet daily Monday through Thursday. Fifth through eighth grade athletes take the field from 5-6:20p.m. and freshman through senior players go to work from 6:30-8:30p.m. Both sessions will be held on the football practice field behind the indoor facility. Cost is $40 per student. Camp will focus on daily instruction from the Mid-Prairie staff, led by head coach Daren Lambert and include technique of fundamentals, position specific drills, teamwork activities and skill competitions.

A trio of former Iowa football stars were recognized by their NFL peers. San Francisco 49ers tight end George Kittle, Detroit Lions tight end Sam LaPorta and Tampa Bay Buccaneers offensive tackle Tristan Wirfs were each voted inside the top 100 NFL players according to a vote from their fellow NFL players. Kittle was the highest-ranked Hawkeye at No. 14 overall, LaPorta checked in at No. 80 and Wirfs cracked the top 100 at No. 85. Tomorrow is the All Iowa Showdown and Emmalin Wright from Greene County Will Be Competing
A reminder that tomorrow Greene County will be represented at a state youth livestock competition. Cedar Highland 4-H Club member Emmalin Wright is competing at the All Iowa Showdown. She qualified for the state contest from the Heartland Throwdown last weekend as the Grand Champion Breeding Ewe. She also had to qualify for the Heartland Throwdown from this year’s Greene County Fair where she was named the Supreme Champion Ewe. Wright talks about why she likes to show lambs.
Four-star SF Winters Grady includes Iowa basketball among top nine schools
The Iowa Hawkeyes made the cut for the final nine schools on four-star small forward Winters Grady’s list. The 6-foot-7, 200 pound small forward is out of Prolific Prep in Napa, Calif. On3’s Joe Tipton broke the news that Iowa was among Grady’s final nine choices. Per Tipton’s report, Iowa joins Arizona State, Colorado, Creighton, Michigan, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Oregon and USC. State Auditor Rob Sand Visits Carroll Last Thursday
State Auditor Rob Sand hosted a town hall meeting at Carroll’s Southside Park on Thursday afternoon to discuss his office’s latest work for the state. Sand addressed the twenty individuals attending, informing them of the reports he said needed to be highlighted that were out-of-the-ordinary investigations for the state official. This year, a partnership between the auditor’s office and a non-profit organization called Opportunity At Work was established to make specific government jobs more easily accessible to individuals, specifically those without a college degree.

Meet the second Black woman to be Miss Iowa USA in over 70 years
McKenzie Ariana Kerry currently holds the title of Miss Iowa USA. She told KCCI, “Every time I put on my sash or my crown, it becomes a little more real.”. The 25-year-old native of Des Moines made history in June by becoming the second Black woman to win the title in the more than 70-year history of the pageant. The first Black woman to win the Miss Iowa title was Cheryl Adrienne Browne Hollingsworth in 1970.
