HUBBARD, Ohio (WKBN) – $2.3 billion dollars. That’s how much money Americans spent on fireworks in 2023. And once again this year sales of fireworks are skyrocketing. Pun intended.

We checked in on Wholesale Fireworks this morning. Sales were steady here at their Hubbard location on Route 62, just south of I-80.

The new Ohio law means you don’t have to say you’re taking them out of Ohio.

Local shopper Vincent Randolph explained what the Fourth means to him.

“Freedom, enjoying the wonderful fellowship with people, and blowing up some nice fireworks for the kids and the family,” said Randolph.

You still have time to get some sparklers or the good stuff, most retailers are open until 9:00 p.m.

And a reminder, anyone over the age of 18 can set off fireworks in Ohio, but only on certain days.

From 4 – 11 p.m., you can set off your backyard displays now through Sunday.

In Pa., you can legally shoot off fireworks today through Saturday until 1 a.m.

From right now through Sunday, the Ohio State Highway Patrol is operating under a zero-tolerance policy.

Officers say they’re going to be cracking down on impaired and aggressive drivers.

Troopers will be conducting traffic enforcement during what they say has become a deadly holiday across the state.
