HUBBARD TWP., Ohio (WKBN) – People who live in a home in Hubbard Township are displaced following a fire late Tuesday morning.

It happened just after 10:30 a.m. in the 3500 block of Homewood Avenue.

Eagle Joint Fire District Chief Ron Stanish says a neighbor spotted smoke coming from the roof, kicked the door in and rescued a dog.

Firefighters say the fire appears to have originated in a back bedroom, but heat and smoke damage is extensive throughout the home.

None of the home’s human occupants were home at the time.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Crews from the Eagle Joint Fire District, Brookfield, Liberty, Girard and the Youngstown Air Reserve Station all responded. Eagle Joint fire chief Rob Stanish said fighting fires in the summer heat takes extra care.

“Plenty of water, rest and ensuring that we have multiple crews on scene to give these crews breaks from the heat,” Stanish said.
