Daily News readers have spoken in voting for the best spot to get ice cream in MetroWest. The good news is that the winner has two locations in the region where you to fill your sweet tooth.

New City Microcreamery , which can be found in Hudson and Sudbury, was the top pick by readers in an online poll sponsored by the Daily News last month. It received a whopping 70% of more than 900 votes cast in topping seven other entries.

New City operates a third shop in Cambridge.

"Being named the best ice cream shop in MetroWest by readers is a significant honor for New City Microcreamery," said Taso Vitsas, New City's marketing director. "It not only reflects the community's appreciation for our unique offerings but also validates the hard work and passion we’ve invested in our craft. This recognition reaffirms our commitment to quality and innovation, and fuels our enthusiasm to continue serving the best ice cream in the world in our Sudbury, Hudson and Cambridge locations."

Second place went to Uhlman's Ice Cream in Westborough, which received 12% of the vote, followed by Trombetta's Farm in Marlborough, at 7%.

Vitsas said New City's ice cream stands out due to its specialized freezing process, creating ice cream that is unlike any other locally.

New City touts 'distinctive' liquid nitrogren freezing method

"New City’s ice cream stands out primarily because of our distinctive liquid nitrogen freezing method, which ensures a smoother, creamier texture," he said. "Additionally, our commitment to using high-quality, local ingredients, like milk from Mapleline Farm (in Hadley) and real mint in our mint chocolate chip flavor, sets us apart. Our attention to detail, from baking our own cookies for the salted cookies and cream to crumbling our homemade baklava, is also a key factor in creating a truly unique and enjoyable experience."

'Maybe the perfect fit': New City Microcreamery eyes Sudbury for its third store

New City opened in Hudson in 2015. It opened its Cambridge store in 2018, and the Sudbury store in 2022. The business has further expanded by selling its products in local supermarkets, including Market Basket, Whole Foods, Roche Brothers, Big Y and All Town Fresh.

The top selling flavor at New City is the salted cookies and cream, according to Vitsas.

"This fan favorite features crunchy, homemade cookies mixed into our rich, creamy base, delivering a decadent treat that guests love," Vitsas said. "The combination of the salty-sweet cookie pieces with our smooth ice cream makes it a standout choice for many. We do have several runners-up, such as tres leches, tiramisu, and newtellaroche," Vitsas said.
