An earthquake has struck around 40 miles from Oklahoma City with a preliminary magnitude of 5.1 (on the Richter scale). The Friday night quake was followed by at least two smaller tremors, the US Geological Survey (USGS) stated.

According to scientists, the area "has been illuminated by earthquakes since 2009."

The Earthquake came at 11:24 PM

Friday evening, about five miles from Prague, Oklahoma, which has about 2,000 residents, the 5.1 tremors shook the USGS states.

    According to experts,

“Most of North America east of the Rocky Mountains has infrequent earthquakes... but most of the enormous region from the Rockies to the Atlantic can go years without an earthquake large enough to be felt, and several US states have never reported a damaging earthquake”

    And, on the USGS website,

"Earthquakes east of the Rocky Mountains, although less frequent than in the West, are typically felt over a much broader region than earthquakes of similar magnitude in the west. East of the Rockies, an earthquake can be felt over an area more than ten times larger than a similar magnitude earthquake on the west coast."

Continued advancements in earthquake prediction and monitoring technologies contribute to a better understanding of seismic events and help us improve our safety measures. By utilizing these advancements, we can be better prepared to face the challenges posed by earthquakes.
