Former President Donald Trump on Tuesday released what he described as a “perfect” recording of his live chat with Elon Musk on X, formerly Twitter, in an apparent effort to address comments about him sounding like he was slurring words during the two-hour event.

In a post on his Truth Social platform , Trump attributed the odd-sounding parts of Monday’s live discussion to technical issues.

“Unfortunately, because of the complexity of modern day equipment, and cellphone technology, my voice was, in certain areas, somewhat different and strange,” Trump said. “Therefore, we have put out an actual, and perfect, recording of the conversation. ENJOY!!!”

The so-called “interview” was conducted remotely on Spaces, the live audio platform within X. Trump spoke to the billionaire from a room in his Mar-a-Lago estate, while Musk said he was at a friend’s ranch in Wyoming.

The latest version of the discussion Trump has uploaded and pinned to the top of his X account is about 55 minutes shorter than the original recording, and Trump’s voice can be heard more clearly.

Musk shared several versions of the conversation, including one that has removed the pauses and improved the audio quality .

The online chatter about Trump sounding strange during the chat seems to have annoyed the former president.

When HuffPost reporter S.V. Date questioned his campaign about why Trump sounded like he was slurring his words and lisping, his team replied: “Must be your shitty hearing. Get your ears checked out.”

Trump has repeatedly insisted that the live event drew “record” viewership figures and blasted the media for reporting the technical glitches that led to the chat starting nearly an hour late.

Musk said on Tuesday that the combined views of the original recording, as well as subsequent chat on other accounts about the event, amounted to approximately 1 billion views but didn’t refer to the numbers as record-breaking. X released figures saying the original recording of the chat got 73 million views within three hours.

During his discussion with Musk , who has endorsed him, Trump repeated falsehoods and bragged about his relationship with authoritarian leaders, including Russian President Vladimir Putin.

As he remains preoccupied with the criticism surrounding his chat with Musk and the crowd sizes his main rival, Vice President Kamala Harris, is drawing at her rallies as her campaign enjoys momentum, many Republicans are urging him to instead draw policy contrasts with the Democratic candidate.

“I want this campaign to win, but the campaign is not gonna win talking about crowd sizes,” former GOP presidential candidate Nikki Haley told Fox News Tuesday. “It’s not going to win talking about what race Kamala Harris is. It’s not going to win talking about whether she’s dumb.”
