New York Times reporter Maggie Haberman said former President Barack Obama ’s size joke at the Democratic National Convention likely annoyed Republican nominee Donald Trump last week.

In his convention speech Tuesday, Obama made a swipe at Trump over his “ weird obsession with crowd sizes ” before making a suggestive move with his hands.

CNN ’s Wolf Blitzer asked Haberman, who also serves as a political analyst for the network, how the jab landed with Trump on Friday.

“So, both of the Obamas’ speeches got under his skin,” said Haberman, referring to remarks from Barack Obama and former first lady Michelle Obama .

Trump is “very reactive” to the Obamas, Haberman added, and has been since he began promoting false claims in the early 2010s that his presidential predecessor was born in Kenya.

“I think you’re going to see more of this,” she predicted.

Haberman told Blitzer that she was struck by DNC speakers being “pretty focused” with their message on Trump.

“We heard it over and over again from the Obamas, from the vice president, from others that, you know, he is a rich guy who cares about his rich friends,” she said.

She continued: “But what you also saw were comments that I think were designed to bait Trump. That was one of them. The more that Trump reacts self- destructively, the better Democrats feel it is for them.”
