Paralympics Athlete Proposes To Girlfriend, But We Have Questions

Spanish para triathlete Lionel Morales Gonzalez asked his girlfriend Jes to marry him at the Paris Paralympics in a video shared Thursday. (Watch it below.)

As a crowd gathered at the Paralympic Village, he kneeled, opened the ring box and got a yes, prompting global congratulations when the Games shared his moment on social media.

But we and a few others have questions: Were the people who watched the engagement throwing condoms at the couple? Sure looks like it. Is that a thing? ( Condoms are provided to athletes in the village.)

It’s certainly more functional than the rice thrown at weddings, we’ll give them that.

A laughing Gonzalez appeared to enjoy the gesture, but he’ll have to refocus on his athletics career quickly: The para triathlon is scheduled for Sunday. Gonzalez finished seventh in his classification at the 2016 Rio Paralympics.
