Trump Wouldn't Answer A Question He Was Asked Repeatedly During The Debate

Despite being pressed on the issue repeatedly, former President Donald Trump on Wednesday refused to say whether he would sign a national abortion ban if elected to a second term.

The moderators at the ABC News presidential debate, the only scheduled debate between Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris, asked the Republican nominee to clarify his stance on reproductive rights.

After pivoting wildly to ranting about student loan cancellation instead of answering if he would veto a national abortion ban, moderator Linsey Davis asked again.

“But if I could just get a yes or no, because your running mate, JD Vance, has said that you would veto it if it did come to your desk,” she said.

“Well, I didn’t discuss it with JD, in all fairness,” Trump responded .

“We don’t have to discuss it because she’d never be able to get it,” he added, without specifying exactly what “she’d never be able to get it” referred to, before once again turning to a confusing reference to the Biden administration’s attempts to cancel student loan debt.

During the debate, Trump also repeated his common — but completely false — claim that Democrats’ abortion policy includes support for executing babies.

The heated exchange comes at a time when many are eager for Trump to clarify his stance on reproductive rights. Even though he has bragged about getting Roe v. Wade overturned , he seemed to suggest last month that he would support Florida’s pro-choice amendment — though shortly after, he said he would vote against it.
