Ex-Aide Reality Checks Trump, Vance Over Their Rhetoric Spin

Former Trump White House communications director Alyssa Farah Griffin on Monday acknowledged that “the conversation today does need to be about political rhetoric” following the apparent second attempt on Donald Trump’s life.

“But one of the biggest offenders of escalatory rhetoric is Donald Trump and JD Vance,” Griffin pointed out to CNN’s Kaitlan Collins.

Both GOP nominee Trump and his running mate have both talked about Democrats being to blame and ignored their own inflammatory comments.

It’s currently “a moment for sobriety that calls for serious leadership,” said Griffin. “Unfortunately, it doesn’t seem to be a self-reflective moment even though it was the candidate, Donald Trump, that himself was a victim.”

Griffin noted Trump’s “screed” to Fox News following the reported assassination attempt in which he said Democrats “are responsible” for the rhetoric but then undercut himself by claiming they are also the “enemy from within.”

“That’s the kind of language our adversaries love to hear us throwing around,” said the former Trump staffer. “It tears us apart from within. And by the way, it does put people at risk.”

On “The View,” meanwhile, which Griffin cohosts, she talked about the questions the apparent second attempt had raised.
