Ex-Trump White House Lawyer Stunned By Aileen Cannon's New Case: 'Can't Make This Up'

Former Trump White House attorney Ty Cobb on Tuesday said he highly doubts that U.S. District Judge Aileen Cannon will end up overseeing the trial of Ryan Wesley Routh, the man charged with the attempted assassination of Donald Trump at his Florida golf club.

Cannon has been — at random — assigned to oversee the case.

“You can’t make this up,” Cobb said of the selection of Cannon, who Trump appointed to the bench and oversaw and then tossed out the federal classified documents case against the former president and current GOP nominee. Special counsel Jack Smith’s office is currently appealing that ruling. Cobb was a fierce critic of Cannon’s handling of that case.

“I think it’s a remarkable coincidence. I would suspect that she may recuse herself or have the case reassigned,” predicted Cobb. “The defense attorney certainly will file, if she does not, a motion to transfer the case to another judge, citing to her palpable bias.”

“And if she doesn’t grant that motion, it will be an interesting potential mandamus issue for the defendant to try to get the 11th Circuit to remove her, and also, it’s certainly a very good appellate motion for the defendant,” he added.

“So, I suspect she will not be the trial judge in that case, but in the time that we’re living in, it’s just one more crazy fact,” he said.

“I mean, it’s just amazing,” acknowledged Burnett.
