Isle of Palms cleans up: Volunteers gather nearly 2,500 pieces of trash post-July 4th
ISLE OF PALMS, S.C. (WCIV) — The morning after the Isle of Palms' Fourth of July party there was a good-sized mess to clean up. An inspired crew of volunteers from the IOP Cleanup Crew, the South Carolina Aquarium, the SC Federal Credit Union, and concerned citizens took to the beach with buckets in hand.
Gonzalez celebrates birthday by walking off Pelicans in 10th inning; RiverDogs sweep series
Charleston, SC - Ricardo Gonzalez turned 20 years old on Saturday. The Charleston RiverDogs shortstop celebrated by grounding a base hit through the left side of the infield that plated the winning run in a wild 11-10 extra-inning affair at Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park. The RiverDogs set a new franchise record by stealing 13 bases in the game without being caught. The six-game sweep was the team’s first since June of 2022. 5,638 fans took in the high-scoring contest.
Markanich’s brace lifts Charleston past Birmingham 2-0
The Charleston Battery triumphed 2-0 over Birmingham Legion FC on Friday at Patriots Point in a match that was nationally televised on ESPN2. It might’ve been the day after Independence Day, but Nick Markanich provided plenty of fireworks with a brace that powered Charleston past visitors. The Battery were relentless in their second consecutive victory and 10th shutout of the regular season.

Teen wanted in deadly July 4 shooting arrested in Georgia, police say
COLUMBIA, S.C. — A teen wanted in a deadly July 4 shooting in Columbia has been arrested roughly 170 miles away in Georgia, police say. The shooting happened at Woodland Terrace Apartments in the 300 block of South Beltline Boulevard around 3 p.m. on Thursday. Police said the male victim was taken to an area hospital but died a short time later. Officers spent several hours at the scene collecting evidence and asking witnesses to come forward with information.
