Hull man admits to drinking during pursuit, faces several charges

HULL, Iowa (KCAU) — A local man was arrested after he allegedly brandished a large knife and then led officials on a pursuit on Saturday.

According to a release , officials received a 911 call reporting that a man had stolen a vehicle using a large knife to threaten the victims.

The release states that officers went to the scene and saw Isidro Encarnacion, 44, of Hull, driving the vehicle that was reported stolen. Despite commands to show his hands, he brandished a large knife and fled, initiating a pursuit.

The release specified that the pursuit lasted nine miles, during which Encarnacion lost control of the vehicle and struck a culvert. The vehicle became disabled and when he got out, he began advancing on the officers “aggressively” with the knife.

Law enforcement was able to subdue Encarnacion with the use of a Taser and a Sheldon Police Department K9. He would be taken to a local hospital for treatment of minor injuries, and then transported to the Sioux County Jail.

The release noted that Encarnacion smelled strongly of alcohol and admitted to drinking before and during the pursuit.

Encarnacion was charged with operating a motor vehicle while under the influence, first-degree theft, domestic abuse, child endangerment, interference with official acts, criminal mischief, and felony eluding.

The Iowa State Patrol, Sioux Center Police Department, Rock Valley Police Department, and the Sheldon Police Department K9 Unit assisted the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office in this case.
