Historical Society hosts ‘Beer Fest at Blue Ox’
The Humboldt County Historical Society will present a new event, “Beer Fest at Blue Ox,” Saturday, July 27, from noon to 5 p.m. at Blue Ox Millworks, 1 X St. Eureka. The event will feature some of Humboldt County’s favorite breweries, bands, food trucks and craft vendors for this 21-and-over event. Sip ales from Lost Coast, Eel River, Six Rivers, The Oak, Power’s Creek, Regeneration and several local homebrewers, while grooving to Flynn Martin, The Elderberry Rust String Band, and headliners Rooster McClintock. Grab some nosh from NouNou’s, Food by Hoy, or Cap’s Food Shack while perusing goods from Rockchick Designs, Ruthie Creates Art, Jewelry By Matty, Coolhandsuuze Glass and many more.
North Coast Food Service Directors to Attend Farm to School Workshop
This summer, food service directors from across the North Coast region will come together for a transformative three-day workshop aimed at strengthening the bridge between local agriculture and school nutrition programs. Coordinated by Rumiano Cheese Company under the 2023 USDA AMS LFPP Grant, the North Coast Food Service Director Farm to School Workshop scheduled for July 16-18, 2024, promises a comprehensive educational experience. In partnership with Alice Waters Institute, North Coast Growers Association, California Cattle Council, California Beef Council, Humboldt County Office of Education, Humboldt County Farm Bureau, Western Organic Dairy Producers Alliance, Western United Dairies, Chef Ann Foundation and the California Department of Food Agriculture Farm to School Office this initiative aims to bring united resources to support the development of critical relationships to empower food service directors to procure nutritionally dense food from local North Coast farmers.

HUMBOLDT COUNTY, Calif. — A teen who went missing in Humboldt County was found. The Eureka Police Department and the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office say Colton Hedin, 14, went missing around midnight near Winship School in Cutten, but was found.

Using cadaver dogs, Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office personnel searched a stretch of the South Fork of the Eel River north of Redway today for human remains. The search was prompted by the discovery of what is believed to be a human tibia bone on July 6 by a Redway resident swimming in the Eel River.
