Ponies of Harmony benefit for homeless youth
HUMBOLDT – Immanuel Lutheran Church of Eureka and The Creative Sanctuary of Arcata are collaborating to present an evening program of music by local artists, The Ponies of Harmony, featuring Katie Belknap and James Zeller, along with guest artist pianist Gabe Lubowe, will perform on Friday, July 26 beginning at 7 p.m. in the sanctuary of Immanuel Lutheran Church, 3230 Harrison Ave. in Eureka.

Using cadaver dogs, Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office personnel searched a stretch of the South Fork of the Eel River north of Redway today for human remains. The search was prompted by the discovery of what is believed to be a human tibia bone on July 6 by a Redway resident swimming in the Eel River.
Suspect of Bridgeville homicide identified by Humboldt County Sheriff's Office
HUMBOLDT COUNTY, Calif. — On Sunday the Humboldt County Sheriff's Office (HCSO) arrested this man, twenty-year-old Melvin Portillo from Sacramento, California for homicide. HCSO said deputies were dispatched to the 27000 block of Highway 36 near Bridgeville on Sunday, for reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, they said they discovered one man dead and arrested Portillo for homicide.
SECOND UPDATE: Victim of Fatal Shooting Identified
The Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office has identified the man fatally shot near Bridgeville on July 14 as Rafael Orlando Castillo-Cortes. He was 34. According to the updated release, Castillo-Cortes, a Sacramento resident, knew the man arrested as a suspect in his death. An autopsy is scheduled for later this week.
