Caricature artist a big “draw” at the Nebraska State Fair
GRAND ISLAND, Neb. (KOLN) - If you are looking for a memorable state fair souvenir, a fun idea could be getting a caricature of yourself drawn by Dirk Christensen. We caught up with QuickDraw Caricatures artist Dirk Christenen at the Pinnacle Bank Expo Center to find out more about himself and his art work. “I’ve been doing this for about 34 years professionally,” Christensen said. “My real job over the years has been a broadcaster. I worked for 35 years in Kearney and another 7 in Lexington, and I was a program director in radio.” Christensen says he did caricatures as a side job during those years, but now he’s turned his passion for drawing people into a full-time endeavor.

Rhule discusses Alvano's status, special teams expectations for Saturday
Lincoln, NEB — The Huskers open their season on Saturday, but today, Head Coach Matt Rhule took to the podium to update fans on who they can expect to be kicking the ball through the uprights versus UTEP. After sustaining a groin injury in Fall Camp, Tristian Alvano’s status for the Huskers opener has remained fluid. Rhule revealed that Alvano should be available to kick short-field goals but that the team may opt to use Western Iowa transfer John Hohl for long-range situations.

Lincoln, Neb. — Nebraska State Troopers will be ready for busy roadways as the summer travel season comes to a close with Labor Day Weekend. “This weekend will be busy on Nebraska roads with the start of Husker football, the final weekend of the State Fair, and Labor Day weekend,” said Colonel John Bolduc, Superintendent of the Nebraska State Patrol. “As we close out the summer travel season, let’s work together to make this a safe weekend on the roads so that everyone reaches their destinations safely.”
Five Members of a Burglary Ring Accused Of Targeting Rural Iowa Pharmacies
(Undated) Dozens of individuals from Houston, Texas, are facing charges in connection with over 200 pharmacy thefts across 31 states, including rural areas of Nebraska and Iowa. The thefts, totaling an estimated 12 million dollars worth of controlled substances, were part of a trend that began in Arkansas and spread to multiple states. The stolen drugs, including hydrocodone, oxycodone, and Xanax, were taken back to Houston and resold. Officials emphasize that these crimes have real victims who depend on their prescription medications and urge the public only to take medications prescribed by a medical professional.
