MAFFS Aircraft Deployed in Support of California Fires
At the request of the National Interagency Fire Center, U.S. Northern Command deployed two C-130 aircraft equipped with Modular Airborne Fire Fighting Systems (MAFFS) from California and Colorado for wildland firefighting operations from Channel Islands Air National Guard Station in Port Hueneme, California, over multiple fires in California. Two additional aircraft will also be activated later this week from Nevada and Wyoming.

Man Seriously Injured in Pedestrian Accident on Demaree Street [Visalia, CA]
One Hospitalized after Pedestrian Collision near Walnut Avenue. VISALIA, CA (July 18, 2024) – One man was hurt Sunday afternoon, in a pedestrian crash on Demaree Street. Around 2:06 p.m., police officers responded to the scene near Walnut Avenue. According to the Visalia Police Department, the driver of a vehicle hit the male pedestrian for reasons under investigation. Medics transported the victim, only described as a 22-year-old man, to Kaweah Health. Reports said the man remains at the hospital in critical condition. Meanwhile, the driver stayed at the site and cooperated with the investigators. Emergency crews shut down the surrounding area for a brief time during cleanup and preliminary duties. At this time, the Visalia PD Traffic Unit is leading the investigation. Officials do not suspect intoxication to be a factor in the incident. Those who witnessed the Demaree Street pedestrian crash can contact the Visalia Police Department at 559-713-4175. Operating a vehicle is a responsibility that should not be taken lightly. 1 dead, 1 woman hospitalized following shooting in southeast Fresno
Police have identified the man who was shot and killed in southeast Fresno Friday as 21-year-old Darius Lopez.Officers received a shotspotter call just after 10:30 p.m. Thursday of two rounds fired in the area of Woodward Avenue and Ninth Street, that's near Sequoia Middle School.When they arrived, they found two victims with gunshot wounds inside a car.One of the victims, now identified as Lopez, died at Community Regional Medical Center.The other, a 19-year-old woman, was sent to hospital and is expected to be okay.Investigators say Lopez and the woman were inside the car when an unknown gunman approached them on foot and shot at the car.The motive for the shooting is still under investigation.Anyone with information on this shooting is asked to call the Fresno Police Department.
