The Middle District of Pennsylvania's United States Attorney’s Office has announced that Micia Best, a 45-year-old resident of Mount Carmel, has been sentenced to 15 years in prison, followed by four years of supervised release. This sentence was imposed by U.S. District Court Chief Judge Matthew W. Brann for the offense of possessing with the intent to distribute over fifty grams of methamphetamine.

As per the statement by United States Attorney Gerard M. Karam, it was revealed that Best was found in possession of more than 350 grams of a substance containing methamphetamine. The charge against Best was a result of a comprehensive investigation into drug trafficking in Northumberland County, which uncovered her involvement in the significant distribution of methamphetamine.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation conducted the investigation, while the case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Alisan V. Martin.

This particular case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program that aims to collaborate with law enforcement at all levels and the communities they serve in order to combat violent crime and gun violence, ultimately creating safer neighborhoods for everyone. On May 26, 2021, the Department implemented a strategy to further strengthen PSN's efforts in reducing violent crime. This strategy is built upon key principles such as fostering trust and legitimacy within our communities, providing support to community-based organizations that work towards preventing violence, establishing targeted and strategic enforcement priorities, and diligently measuring the outcomes achieved.
