With the Rosendale Street Festival coming up this weekend, it seems a perfect time to say howdee to Peter Head, frontman of perennial street fest favorite Pitchfork Militia. If you haven’t seen them yet, Pitchfork puts on a show that kicks like a mule. Based mainly in Palenville, the band first got together in 1995. They put out six cassette tapes in their first four years, then, when CD production became more reasonable, they started cranking those out as well, fifteen to date.

Historic Ship La Amistad Will Soon Dock in Kingston
KINGSTON – Hudson River Maritime Museum announced that it will host the Amistad Saturday, August 3-Wednesday, August 7, 2024 at their Kingston Waterfront campus. The 129-foot schooner is a replica of the 19th century ship, La Amistad, which became widely known for the 1839 uprising of enslaved captives from Sierra Leone who overthrew the crew and commandeered the ship into waters off the coast of New York. Tours of the ship and other public programming will be offered while they are anchored at the Kingston Waterfront. Tickets and more information can be found at www.hrmm.org/amistad.

Update 6:14pm: Governor Hochul says she has deployed the NYS Police and other agencies to help in Oneida County. As the heat index rose and the potential for storms grew, a tornado has been confirmed in Rome, NY - just north of Utica. Photos from the scene show a church with its roof and steeple torn off, numerous downed trees and power lines, overturned vehicles - even a B-52 bomber on display at the Air Force base was moved by the strong winds.

QUEENSBURY | Hundreds of trees were uprooted and numerous houses damaged after strong winds and rain swept through Warren County Tuesday evening. As the strong system moved in from the west, emergency warnings were issued after a confirmed tornado touched down near Wells, N.Y., quickly bringing raging winds and a severe thunderstorm into the county. Local meteorologists have reported winds topping 87 MPH in Glens Falls as the system moved east into Vermont.
