HUNTERSVILLE, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — Another round of closures is coming to the Interstate 77 interchange with Gilead Road.

On Sunday night, N.C. Department contract crews will shut down the I-77 South exit ramp at Exit 23. It’s part of the latest step in the construction of a diverging diamond interchange there, much like the one at Exit 28.

The ramp closure is scheduled from 6 p.m. Sunday to 6 a.m. Monday, allowing workers to pave the exit ramp.

Drivers are encouraged to take I-77 South to Exit 18 (W.T. Harris Boulevard), turning left to go over the highway, turning to I-77 North to continue to exit 23.

The interchange conversion is a $30.8 million project.
